What We’re Saying: It's fitting that adidas is issuing the first public release of the Made to be Remade sneaker (FKA Futurecraft.Loop) during Earth Week. After being delivered to a small number of beta testers, the recyclable shoe is finally launching through adidas.com on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22.
adidas first introduced the Futurecraft.Loop in 2019 as a running shoe made from a single piece of plastic. Part of a circular system known as Made to Be Remade, the sneaker is designed to live on after its initial lifespan by being recycled and made into a new pair of shoes. The idea is for the materials that make up the Futurecraft.Loop to be reused over and over again, and take life in the form of new shoes.
Following the first generation of the Futurecraft.Loop that was given to 200 creatives in 2019, the second generation was reissued to those same beta testers later that year. Now, the commercial launch of the Made to Be Remade sneaker is finally upon us.
The Futurecraft.Loop is launching in the form of an Ultraboost that is made from used materials, with no dye or glue. adidas' latest tooling is still incorporated in the design, as the shoe boasts a sock-like Primeknit upper and Boost cushioning in the midsole. A special QR code is applied to the tongue of the Futurecraft.Loop, which allows you to stay connected and more conveniently return the shoe at the end of its lifespan.
