“04.08.88” sits on the inner tongue of the upcoming Air Jordan 3 “Knicks” sneaker, in reference to the day of the game in which Michael Jordan played through a stomach virus to beat the New York Knicks, one of the Chicago Bulls’ great rivals of the ’90s. The shoe arrives today, but you can secure a pair already at stock market of things StockX.
The white leather upper is contrasted by the Knicks colors, with blue highlighting inside and at the eyelets, alongside some bright orange detailing. An iconic element of the Air Jordan 3 model first seen on ’80s releases, the signature elephant print lines the heel, toe, and eyelets of the sneaker.
Of course, it’s not the first time that Jordan Brand has referenced the Knicks, with previous models such as the Jordan 1 Retro “Knicks” and Air Foamposite One “Knicks” giving a nod to the Bulls’ rivals. Nike isn’t the only one to have channeled the New York team through its sneakers either. Ronnie Fieg’s ASICS Gel-Lyte, released back in 2013, also featured the color scheme.
