Kanye West has debuted atop the Billboard 200 for his 9th consecutive album with Jesus Is King, tying Eminem for the longest streak. The gospel album opened with 264,000 equivalent album units in the week after its October 25 release. Of those, 109,000 were actual album sales, while the rest came from streaming.
Kanye West has hit the #1 spot for the first week of every album, save for his debut effort, The College Dropout. Eminem’s streak is also active, meaning we’re likely to see them neck-and-neck for some time to come. The Beatles held the previous record with eight consecutive albums to debut at #1. Meanwhile, JAY-Z has the record for most total #1s with 14 albums, though those have been non-consecutive.
