Just when you thought fashion's flavor of the month - Vetements - couldn't stir up more polarizing opinions, the cult Paris-based label has gone and enlisted a whopping total of 18 different collaborators for its impending SS17 collection. If the concept of a multi-collaborative collection sounds familiar, perhaps you can recall Gosha Rubchinskiy's recent SS17 show at Pitti, where he teamed up with six iconic labels including Kappa, Superga, FILA, Sergio Tacchini, Retrosuperfuture and Levi's.
The star lineup for Vetements SS17 is set to include (deep breaths) Carhartt WIP, Levi’s, Canada Goose, Eastpak, Reebok, Alpha Industries, COMME des GARÇONS, Champion, Schott, Manolo Blahnik, Brioni, Lucchese, Mackintosh, Church’s, Dr. Martens, Kawasaki and, in what makes little to no sense at all, Juicy Couture.
Though seemingly gratuitous, Vetements does have a track record for reworking traditional garments such as Alpha bombers, Levi's denim and, most famously, DHL tees into distorted, hyper-exaggerated cuts that subvert their original form. Personally, I'm especially anxious to see what designer Demna Gvasalia is going to do with those infamous velour Juicy Couture tracksuits with the bedazzling details across the rear.
Vetements SS17 will show in Paris on July 3, but in the meantime, stay up to date with everything that's happening during fashion week this season.
