Louis Vuitton menswear director Virgil Abloh has appointed Benji B as the brand’s music director.
Abloh’s admiration for the UK tastemaker and DJ is clear, having once described him as the “Anna Wintour of music.” The OFF-WHITE designer has been a regular listener of Benji’s BBC radio show — renowned for its forward-thinking electronic and hip-hop playlists — from the beginning, claiming to have gleaned most of his knowledge of house music history from it. The pair eventually struck up a rapport, with Benji serving as a mentor figure in Abloh’s DJ career, where he operates under the moniker FLAT WHITE. Peep the pair going B2B here.
Benji is no outsider when it comes to fashion. The selector previously served as musical director for Phoebe Philo at Céline and has soundtracked numerous Fashion Week shows. Famously, he worked with Kanye West on Yeezus and The Life of Pablo, boasting production credits on both.
Abloh teased the news on Instagram ahead of this afternoon’s Louis Vuitton runway show. Peep the photo below, where Benji can be seen alongside Canadian instrumentalists BADBADNOTGOOD.
