Virgil Abloh was quite the busy man during this year’s Art Basel Miami. In addition to a special performance in partnership with American Express and a seven-on-seven soccer game, the designer/DJ joined with Nike for yet another event which took place at Angelo Baque’s Social Studies.
On Thursday, December 7, Virgil, Grace Ladoja, and Jonathan Padjen, a player from the Miami Rooftop Ballers — the soccer team that won Nike’s Best of Miami Tournament at El Classico — engaged in an intimate conversation surrounding the connection between sport and culture, as well as the role of jersey culture. The chat was in turn moderated by Ashleigh Kane, Arts and Culture Editor of DAZED, followed by a special jersey-making workshop.
There, those in attendance were able to customize their own Nike soccer jersey with the logos of Social Studies participants: Awake NY, No Vacancy Inn, OFF-WHITE, Heron Preston, 032c, and more.
