Having dipped into childhood nostalgia for its Popeye-themed SS16 collection, this fall sees Italian label LC23 ditch the cartoon references in favor of a more mature, mix-n-match approach to design.

The connecting thread across all LC23's work has always been its fantastic fit (label founder Leo Colacicco is a professional tailor, after all), and this season is no exception. Cropped trousers in several fabrics all sit at just the right height above the ankle, while a range of crisp outerwear builds structure over a selection of fitted turtlenecks and other assorted knitwear.

What really stands out about this collection, however, is the wide assortment of materials used throughout. Fishtail parkas are given contrasting hits of shearling; wool overcoats get back panels of neoprene or quilted nylon; sweatpants are fashioned from wool, and wool trousers get a two-tone stripe a quarter way down their length. It's like the entire thing was designed as normal, before swapping all the elements around like a cut-and-paste collage...

Look out for the full collection to drop in stores in late summer. Meanwhile, the SS16 collection is available through the brand's online store.
