Nike’s most famous dad shoe, the Air Monarch, is experiencing a new lease on life thanks to the chunky sneaker trend that has reigned supreme over the past few seasons. That hasn’t stopped Nike from updating one of its most iconic silhouettes, though, creating the modern, on-trend, M2K Tekno.

The M2K Tekno was first unveiled at John Elliott Co.’s runway presentation. As it turned out, the M2K Tekno is a new in-line silhouette that serves as an updated Air Monarch.

The original, of course, still exists. However, when looking at the slider above, it is clear to see what parts of the Monarch influenced the M2K Tekno.

The shape of the midsole and outsole is almost identical in the forefoot, while the M2K Tekno has a chunkier heel unit with a more pronounced shape than the original.

Two other major changes are the leather panelling that seems more complex on the M2K Tekno than on the Air Monarch and the Swoosh on the Tekno, which has decreased in size, with a mini-swoosh added near the heel of the shoe.

What do you think of the Air Monarch comparisons? Which of the two sneakers do you think looks better? Let us know in the comments.
