Much like the Air Max, Nike's Cortez sneaker is celebrating a big anniversary in 2017. The shoe, first released as a traditional running silhouette in 1971, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.
Since its arrival, the Cortez has propelled champion runners, graced silver screens (in 1994 smash hit Forest Gump, no less) and televisions, and gained huge cultural significance in West Coast hip-hop street style.
To celebrate the Cortez's continued success and relevance, the Swoosh has enlisted model and professional hot person Bella Hadid to showcase the shoe in a fittingly 1970s-style shoot. The shots are reminiscent of the Farrah Fawcett image in which the actress is seen skateboarding in a pair of Cortez sneakers on the Charlie's Angels set.
The 20-year-old model put pen to paper on a deal with Nike back in November, but this is her first big campaign. You can expect to see Hadid wearing this one a lot throughout the summer as part of the deal, but at least she seems to like it: "This one is about as classic as you can get," Hadid told W about the Cortez back in March. "Nike’s real OG and I wear it with anything—dressed up or down."
Check out Hadid in her Cortez's in the gallery above, then head over to Nike to cop yourself a pair for around $100.
