Editor’s Notes: Ibn Jasper may be working on his own brand, but the barber, designer, and stylist has taken some time out of his schedule for a special collaboration alongside Converse. The two have come together for a luxe new take on the classic Pro Leather, famously worn by basketball legend Julius Erving, also known as Dr. J.

Converse debuted the Pro Leather in 1976 as the lightest and most durable hoops sneaker on the market. In addition to Dr. J, the shoe was worn by other pro players and collegiate athletes alike. Fast forward, and the Pro Leather has transcended basketball to become a favorite in fashion and skate circles as well.

“This particular collaboration means a lot to me since I was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s watching all of the great NBA players like Dr. J.,” says Jasper. “The aesthetic is based on a photo of Dr. J. walking into the arena with an all-white outfit. He looks like he just stepped off of the runway. I thought to myself: ‘How can I distill this image and vibe into a collection?’”

Jasper’s Pro Leather pays homage to Dr. J’s sophisticated style, serving as a trophy to his legacy and impact on the game of basketball. The collaborative sneaker boasts an overall contemporary design, outfitted with zip entry and Roman numeral embossing.

The Ibn Jasper x Converse Pro Leather is scheduled to release globally on September 26.
