Editor’s Notes: Nike's new Air Jordan 3 Tinker “Air Max 1” colorway hits shelves today, March 30.
The white colorway, which adds university red accents on the tongue and top eyelet, as well as a red band across the toe box and mudguard, takes its cues from the Nike Air Max 1’s original makeup, another of designer Tinker Hatfield’s famous creations. The "Nike Air" branding on the back is a nod to the original Air Jordan 3 from 1988.
This “Air Max 1” version joins the University of Oregon PE, the original white/black/gray model, and Justin Timberlake’s “White Cement” and “Bio Beige” versions of the Air Jordan 3 Tinker. Best of all, this version comes with four removable Swooshes, similar to the aforementioned University of Oregon PE. The Swoosh options are white, red, reflective gray, and elephant print.
The Air Jordan 3 Tinker comes from an original sketch by designer Hatfield when he was creating Michael Jordan's third signature kick. The final version ended up dropping sans-Swoosh and is largely credited with keeping Jordan at Nike.
