Editor’s Notes: Ahead of next month’s debut, Nike introduces Kevin Durant‘s new ’90s basketball shoe-inspired signature sneaker, the KD12. Like every other silhouette in the KD line, the KD12 is built around comfort and responsiveness. For the KD12, this was accomplished by reexamining the stroble, the part of the shoe that separates your foot from the cushioning.
Nike and Leo Chang, Senior Creative Director for Nike Basketball Footwear, achieved maximum cushioning and comfort by stitching a full-length articulated Air Zoom bag to the upper, thus making the Air unit a more dynamic element of the sneaker. After determining where the Air unit needed flexibility, welded channels were created in the Air Zoom bag, allowing it to flex with the movement of the wearer. Furthermore, Nike implemented one Air unit for every half-size of the KD12, giving each wearer a more personalized fit.
Kevin Durant’s Nike KD12 is set to debut in “The Day One” colorway on April 6. Be sure to hit the comments to leave us your early thoughts on the sneaker.
