This week Nike SB premieres its first-ever all-female skateboarding film titled Gizmo. The movie pays tribute to influential skater Elissa Steamer, while also highlighting an up-and-coming generation of athletes.
Nicknamed “Gizmo” by her father, Steamer transcended gender and commanded respect by becoming one of the first women recognized as a professional skater. As Nike SB points out, Elissa worked her way into the spotlight in 1996, largely due to her standout style. Since, she has gone on to inspire a new generation of skateboarders, some of which you see in the on-hand film.
In addition to Steamer, Gizmo features Lacey Baker, Leticia Bufoni, Hayley Wilson, Sarah Meurle, Josie Millard, Nicole Hause, Aori Nishimura, and Rayssa Leal. The Jason Hernandez-directed movie was filmed over the course of a year in North America, Europe, China, and Australia.
