Editor’s Notes: Prada is hosting a pop-up store on the second floor of Isetan Shinjuku, where it will present some of its latest kicks. While some are silhouettes or variations of models we’ve seen before, there was one specifically that caught our eye.
The mysterious silhouette — currently without a name, to Highsnobiety’s knowledge — features a mid-cut knit upper and slightly chunky, sporty midsole. That, however, is not the surprising part (Prada has been ramping up its sportswear-inspired offerings of late — relaunching its Linea Rossa line — and knit sneakers are a big part of that).
The surprising design feature is the “PRADA” text running down the forefoot of both sneakers, reminiscent of Pharrell Williams’ adidas Originals Hu NMD. While the lace cage and sole units certainly differ, the knit upper emblazoned with bold text is remarkably similar.
Whether designed as an homage to Williams’ most successful adidas silhouette or not, those that want a luxe version of the Hu NMD should look no further.
Check out the sneaker in detail above and, if you happen to be in Tokyo, head to Prada’s pop-up store at Isetan Shinjuku for an in-person look at the sneaker.
