First debuted during the COMME des GARÇONS’ SS17 collection runway show in Paris earlier this week, the CdG for Nike VaporMax has finally been officially unveiled.

The futuristic shoe combines designer Rei Kawakubo’s modernism with Nike’s traditional and longstanding Air technology. The radical (and let’s be honest, dope AF) new look is possible because whereas previous Air units had to be insulated by a secondary rubber layer for protection, new technologies now allow the incorporation of the Air and exterior layer into one holistic, standalone VaporMax Air unit — in laymen’s terms, the big and shiny bubble bit at the sole.

Nike says the new innovation will enable other future designers to create new and powerful-looking shoes. Here CdG has opted for a Flyknit upper, modified to reflect Kawakubo’s desire to create a slip-on.

The two brands have collaborated many times previously, including on the Blazer Low, Blazer High, Defender Jersey and more.

The Nike VaporMax for COMME des GARÇONS VaporMax will release in early 2017.

While we wait, check out the sleek street style from the COMME des GARÇONS’ SS17 show.
