Following an exclusive glimpse at their new collaborative footwear, NikeLab and Pigalle today provide us with an official look at styles from their upcoming capsule. Once again, it’s all about ’90s hoops with Stéphane Ashpool and crew, this time around featuring silhouettes that work seamlessly for men and women.
“It’s an evolution of ’90s basketball allure from the U.S., but in an elegant, Parisian way,” describes Ashpool. “When you put all the stuff together, it’s exactly the way I want it to be. You have this sporty value, but at the same time if you wear it well, you can go out at night.”
While looking forward to the future, the Pigalle founder also wants to make sure that he pays homage to the past. “The best garments have a balance between heritage and future-thinking technique,” the designers insists.
For the first time ever, Ashpool has produced a pattern from scratch for Nike, courtesy of a three-fourth length jacket which reinterprets the mobility vent from the progressive Nike Vapor basketball uniform. To complement, the NikeLab Basketball Short x Pigalle in French Terry boasts the same mobility vent, while more directly tying to traditional fabrications, perfectly paired with the classic-fitting NikeLab Hoodie x Pigalle.
Additional items from the collaborative capsule include a cap, visor, tee and NikeLab Pro Classic Bra x Pigalle, on top of a tracksuit that comes adorned with snap closers at the wrist and ankle, and a two-way zipper. “It’s the most Parisian look,” says Ashpool. “The garment is not too rough in terms of style and color.”
From a footwear standpoint, NikeLab and Pigalle came together on the resurgent Air Shake Ndestrukt, as well as the Benassi Duo Ultra Slide.
“It was a pretty funky shoe to work on,” Ashpool mentions in regards to the NikeLab Shake Ndestrukt x Pigalle. “These shoes have a strong volume, so I needed to reduce that. Using the Velcro and those colors, gives it a softer twist.”
You can look forward to the NikeLab x Pigalle collection arriving June 24 at NikeLab stores.
