Today marks the seventh anniversary of the release of “Monster,” the game-changing single from Kanye West that proved to be a centerpiece of his 2010 masterpiece My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But it seems that if Ye had his way, the track would not have appeared on the record at all; Nicki Minaj revealed in an Instagram post that “Monster” was very nearly cut from the album. See her post below.

“It was like an hour long call where I tried to convince him to let the song stay on his album,” she writes, which makes sense, as “Monster” is perhaps best known as a showcase for Minaj’s utter ferocity as an emcee. She also says that Kanye “wanted me to add more of that growling monster voice and I felt it was over kill.”
