Editor’s Notes: Nike has teamed up with Emotionally Unavailable to present a predominantly red canvas Air Force 1 high that plays on the mood and theme EU has become known for.

The brainchild of CLOT’s Edison Chen and Kybum Lee, Emotionally Unavailable was founded in 2014 as a lighthearted partnership between the two creatives. Five years on, the brand is starting to take things more serious which has, in part, resulted in the above collaboration with Nike, as well as full collections and partnerships with Dover Street Marker LA.

Speaking to Nike, Chen says “ We have a fan base that pushed us toward being more serious about the brand. Now we're 1,000 percent serious, and our partnership with Nike on this Air Force 1 is testament to us putting the brand to the forefront.”

The pair chose canvas as their material of choice for this collaboration as a nod to the Nike Vandal, which Lee initially thought was an Air Force 1. "Growing up in Korea, the canvas Air Force One is a universal shoe. Hip-hop heads wore it. Skaters wore it. It covered multiple subcultures," says Lee. "It also just looks cool because it wears down so well."

Although the name Emotionally Unavailable suggests not being capable of giving or receiving love, these shoes are made to be loved. According to Nike, the kicks will develop a patina as they are worn.

The Emotionally Unavailable x Nike Air Force 1 High debuted at a special E.U. x Nike pop-up event in Downtown Los Angeles on March 9. Following that, the sneaker is released globally on March 14.
