Notwithstanding all the rants, disses and general craziness that goes hand-in-hand with any Kanye West tour, arguably the biggest talking point from this year's "Saint Pablo" jaunt so far has been the first-of-its-kind floating stage design. In a new entry, ArchDaily's architecture journal INTERIORS has provided a detailed breakdown of the performance architecture and, as you might expect, constructing such an ambitious platform was no easy task.

Attempting to negate the distance between crowd and performer for a fully immersive and interactive experience, West's platform is made up of a main and secondary stage featuring a pulley and track system, meaning he could freely move between all areas of the room while us mere mortals went HAM below. As INTERIORS explains:

The design of the tour is broken down into two stage components, its Main Stage and Secondary Stage (or “Spaceship” Stage as it has been named by many). These stages feature an elaborate pulley and track system. The open web steel joists compose the elaborate framing system that attaches to the structure of each arena. The result is that people actually become part of the experience, taking the concept of a concert to another level. In this sense, audience members are singing, dancing and engaging with Kanye West. It is the first concert in recent memory that actively uses the crowd as part of the experience of the show.

The same post also explains how the platform was manipulated from song to song, and the various lighting cues involved. Click here to read it in full.

Ye's stage hasn't been warmly received in all quarters, however. This South African rapper claims he came up with the idea originally.
