Editor’s Notes: Upon the first inspection, Nike's latest Air Max 97 kicks appear to be a simple uniform black upper with red accents. However, a closer look reveals the sneaker’s mudguard is marked with discreet Nike wordmark branding throughout.
As seen in the gallery above, as well as this subtle black-on-black branding, the kicks carry "air max" text in the brand's iconic "University Red" colorway on the heel tab, as well as the mini-Swooshes on the tongue and lateral. Although a far-from-dramatic makeover for the silhouette, this subtle black take on the AM97 is a welcome change for those looking to cop something that speaks in a whisper rather than a shout.
A U.S. release has yet to be confirmed, but shoppers can head over to Japanese retailer atmos for more details. The sneaker is currently retailing for ¥18,000 (approximately $164).
In related news, the AM97 has also surfaced in "Summit White." More on that here.
