Editor’s Notes: Nike is bringing back the sneaker Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant wore when he scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors on January 22, 2006. Bryant's performance is heralded by many as the greatest single-game performance in modern NBA history.

With the Swoosh turning Black Mamba’s old signature sneakers into remastered Protros recently, it makes sense for this iconic piece of NBA history to be given a new lease of life.

The retro'd sneaker made its (second) NBA debut on January 9, when DeMar DeRozan — a former Raptor himself — wore them in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies. DeRozan only managed to clock nine points in the game, however.

Bryant’s 81-point game will be celebrated today, January 22, when the Nike Kobe 1 Protro “81 Pt Game” is released via SNKRS in North America, at Nike online, and at select global retailers.
