Editor’s Notes: Nike’s all-new Plattenbau Dunk pays homage to Berlin’s prefabricated concrete structures, known as Plattenbau, that line the city’s streets. Dating back to the ’60s, the buildings predominantly served as housing units.
The thematic Dunk has in turn been done up in light grey with complementary touches of gold as a nod to the Platte. The grey also symbolizes the structures’ concrete construction, in addition to the gloomy atmosphere found within the buildings.
The laser-etching on the upper then represents the systematic pattern of the buildings, while branding accents in D85 and D17 point to the first year of the Dunk and the release of the Plattenbau Dunk, respectively. The limited number (1 out of 240) in turn appears on the tongue. Lastly, the lace tips bear the words “Traum” and “Tristesse,” two elements that can only exist together in a Berlin Plattenbau.
Nike’s Plattenbau Dunk is scheduled to release exclusively at Overkill in Berlin.
