nike react element 87 style roundup

Americans have had to wait the longest for what is perhaps Nike’s most hyped new sneaker of 2018. Come Friday, July 13, however, the Nike React Element 87 will finally hit U.S. shores.  Europe and the rest of Nike’s worldwide stockists received the sneakers in late June, meaning a select few sneakerheads have already been flexing their latest purchase online. This has allowed us to put together a short guide on how to best style the Nike React Element 87.

The translucent upper — which reminds us of the OFF-WHITE x Nike Zoom Fly that dropped in late 2017 — is a game-changer when it comes to styling, as it allows the wearer to experiment with different colored and patterned socks. In our selection below, you’ll find socks ranging from neon-colored to Gucci pattern-clad. Our in-house shopping whiz, Rhianna Matthews, recommends brands that utilize eye-catching prints and colors like Heron Preston, A-COLD-WALL*, and 1017 Alyx 9SM.

In addition, the React foam technology Nike uses for the midsole plays a large part in the futuristic aesthetic Nike has gone for with this release. To get the perfect level of comfort, Nike designers used a slab of foam and a drill to experiment which depths and densities of drilled holes achieved the wanted cushioning effect. The result is a unique midsole that looks a bit like the surface of an extraterrestrial planet.

Speaking of comfort, lean back, relax, and scroll through our selection of style inspiration below.
