Editor’s Notes: Following the global launch of his first signature shoe, NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nike are dropping a colorway of his Zoom Freak 1 inspired by 1988 cult film, Coming to America starring Eddie Murphy. The film, which sees Murphy’s character flee to America to avoid an arranged marriage and find love, and Giannis’ journey from Athens, Greece to become an NBA superstar share some (very loose) similarities, making this release all the better.

The overarching theme, of course, is the struggles of adapting to a new country and culture and the release takes on an Africa-inspired colorway with leopard print providing the base for an eye-catching take on the new silhouette. Giannis, of course, has Nigerian roots, though he grew up in Greece.

Giannis also shared a parody of the movie to his Instagram, which featured himself and his brothers, as well as the upcoming “Coming to America” Nike Zoom Freak 1. Check it out below.

Stay tuned for further information in the run up to the August 2 release date.
