You would be forgiven for thinking that you’ve been waiting your entire life for Major Lazer’s new single “Cold Water.” Two months is a fair amount of time to wait for something in general, let alone an amount of time to wait for a single featuring Justin Bieber that was promised to be a crown jewel amongst a treasure trove of summer jams. But rest easy, “Cold Water” has finally arrived, and it seems like that those two months of agony may have been worth the wait.

“Cold Water” is essentially a supergroup of everyone Diplo has made fantastic music with over the past year. It of course features his fellow members of Major Lazer, and it builds on the success he found with Bieber from the pop perfection of last year’s “Where R Ü Now.” It also marks yet another collaboration between the producer and MØ, the enigmatic Swedish electro-singer who popped up on Major Lazer’s excellent single “Lean on Me,” also from last year. Altogether, they make for an unstoppable force of pure sonic bliss, turning an otherwise cliche ballad of lost love into a catchy, dancehall-inflected jam that delivers hook after righteous hook.

Diplo has promised even more Major Lazer music headed our way, so stay tuned.

In related “long-awaited track” news, Desiigner has finally made good on his promise of “Tiimmy Turner.”
