Brand: Carhartt WIP

Season: Fall/Winter 2019

Key Pieces: There’s a lot going on here but the standout pieces include the use of camo tree orange across a number of pieces, particularly the face mask and fleece jacket. Elsewhere there’s a heavy focus on check and houndstooth, a nod to the brand’s workwear roots, which inserts itself effortlessly in to the seasonal offerings.

Release Date: TBA

Buy: Soon at carhartt-wip.com

Editor’s Notes: Carhartt WIP, a European license, has always stuck close to what U.S. workwear brand Carhartt set out to do in 1889. Taking workwear staples and elevating them for an urban, street style-conscious consumer, Carhartt WIP delivers on this underlying promise with a range of goods that touch on the most interesting aspects of its parent brand.

The styling for Fall/Winter 2019 in particular is superb, taking traditional hunting patterns and placing them in a new context where layers and a slouchy silhouette make them an unexpectedly perfect choice for the city. It’s a refreshing break from the usual skate inspiration we’ve been seeing season after season, and something Kanye West would certainly endorse.

While there are a few narrower silhouettes, the majority of the looks take billowy trousers and stack them over functional workwear boots. It’s not the easiest silhouette to pull off, especially if you’re on the shorter side, but when done right, like in this lookbook, it’s a flex that will turn heads and inspire others to trade in the skinny jeans and the skate hoodie for something new.
