Editor’s Notes: Rising Chicago-born artist Julian Victor LaMarr Gaines (aka Ju Working on Projects, aka Juwop) has partnered with Nike on what the duo is calling the “Game Worn” collection.
Comprising takes on two iconic ’80s silhouettes, the 1982 Nike Sky Force and 1985 Nike Vortex, the project is inspired by creatives and the hustle required to make it in the US of A. Each shoe is reimagined as one that has already been worn and broken in — comfortable out of the box, if you will.
The collection will only be available at Notre in Chicago on July 21 and all profits will go directly back to the community through 500 “Th-oughts Scholarships” to be offered to kids across Chi-town.
In addition to the black Nike Sky Force 3/4, Juwop worked on a Friends & Family avocado green pair, which you can check out in detail below. The shoe’s sockliner features artwork by the artist throughout, as well as branding seen through the translucent outsole.
“The ‘Game Worn’ collection is all about sharing my personal story and using that inspiration to help empower Chicago’s next generation of creatives to dream, explore, and to come together,” explains Gaines. “I want to open our eyes to the power of sport, art, and creativity and really give back to the kids in my community in a powerful way. I’m not only excited for Chicago to embrace this incredibly personal project, but also use this moment to push our city forward.”
If you’re looking to cop this highly exclusive release, be in Chicago on July 21. In the meantime, check out the “Game Worn” silhouettes above and stay tuned for more details.
