Though Kanye West has unequivocally conquered the music world and is on his way to doing the same to fashion, he has yet to make a real power-play into the realms of acting and cinema. Until now, that is. In last night's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a skit promoting the upcoming HBO sci-fi series Westworld starred none other than Mr. West in the performance of his career.
Well, kind of. Riffing on the title of the series, the skit saw various clips of Kanye West-mid rant inserted seamlessly into the show's newest trailer. The results are actually more coherent than one might think, with West's diatribes on technology and art fitting right in with the dramatic story of androids in the background. Particularly amusing a piece of dialogue taken from his instantly-iconic interview with Ellen DeGeneres. You know, the one about realness.
Westworld is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park. It concerns an amusement park populated with androids that the human guests can interact with however they chose, without any consequences. Obviously some shit goes down. And with a cast that includes the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Christopher Nolan's brother Jonathan serving as writer/producer, the show promises to be one of the more darkly cinematic offerings of television this year.
Stay tuned to see where Kayne pops up next. Westworld premieres on HBO this Sunday, October 2.
In other Kanye West news, the rapper's collaborative track with Juicy J, fittingly titled "Ballin," just got a lush music video treatment. Watch it right here.
