Shaquille O’Neal wears a size 22, so he knows the struggle of finding big sneakers as a teen. The four-time NBA champion told CBS that when he heard about Zach Keith, a 13-year-old basketball player from Georgia who already wore a size 18 shoe, it reminded him of his own story.

He recalled, “Mom couldn’t afford shoes. The kid had big feet. I just kind of reminisced about how that used to be me, my mom and my dad.” As the young player couldn’t afford to buy new sneakers, Shaq stepped in to help. The retired basketball star surprised Keith, gifting him with 10 new pairs of size 18 sneakers from Friedman’s Shoes in Atlanta.
