The sneaker game is awash with new products dropping all the time, but for one Sydney-based designer it isn’t enough.
Italian native Federico Maccapani has become a global sensation with his Dr. Frankenstein-like approach to design concepts, and through his Instagram alias MBROIDERED, Federico’s designs have developed a passionate and credible fan base.
Fed’s ability to combine different existing design components with ideas of his own to create all new product has caught the attention of sneaker lovers everywhere, and when he designs, even the brands pay attention.
The authenticity and credibility of Federico’s design work comes from his appreciation of the game, something that ranges from OG styling through to modern silhouettes and innovations.
See below for the seven shoes currently in Fed’s rotation, with a few words on why each is a design classic in his mind.
adidas YEEZY Boost 750
“Winter has finally arrived in Sydney and it’s good to have a warm blacked-out suede boot to wear with pretty much everything.”
adidas NMD City Sock
“Uber comfortable NMD Boost tooling mixed with a sock-fit knitted upper. Laceless, super comfy and glows in the dark.”
adidas Ultra Boost 1.0 Core Black
“My go-to sneaker. ride or die. I wear it every morning for a run, riding my motorbike or going to meetings. Literally my favorite shoe at the moment.”
Y-3 Pure Boost ZG Knit
“A big improvement from the previous Y-3 pure boost, which in my opinion wasn’t stable enough. The new tooling is more precise without compromising the cloud-like feel of the Pure Boost sole. The relaxed Y-3 knitted upper and leather lining make this shoe one of my favorite silos of 2016.”
adidas adizero Prime Boost LTD Multicolor
“I love the multicolor knit blended very smoothly with a predominant black upper. This is a very underrated shoe, quite similar to the Ultra Boost but with a lower profile.”
adidas Stan Smith PK & Superstar PK
“adidas managed to get two of their most famous silhouettes and made them even better. These 2 should be staples in everyone’s shoe collection. They literally go with every outfit.”
“I was very lucky to receive these as a gift from Gary Aspden, a true legend at adidas. He really made me obsessed with the brand and receiving this prototype from him makes it even more special. The Futurecrafts are an incredible piece of wearable design. There are only 100 pairs in the world. I know most people wouldn’t wear them to keep them icy, but I love shoes, and I think wearing them is the best way to appreciate them.”
