Brand: Li-Ning

Season: FW19

Key Pieces: The busy low-top sneaker (above) featuring a woven grey midsole an a mixed-material upper is the standout sneaker from the brand’s New York Fashion Week FW19 showing. A mesh upper features a number of synthetic overlays that create a cage of sorts along the sides of the sneaker.

Release Date: TBC

Buy: Li-Ning

Editor’s Notes: Li-Ning has been around since 1990 when it was established by Chinese Olympic gymnast Mr. Li-Ning, however, it was only recently that the brand made waves outside of China, specifically for its lifestyle sneakers. In late 2018 Li-Ning introduced its Furious Rider ACE, which Highsnobiety covered as the first Li-Ning sneaker to feature on the Paris Fashion Week runway.

Now, at New York Fashion Week FW19, the brand took its sneaker game to a whole new level, showcasing a number of crazy styles. The standout sneaker, outlined above, made use of a complex, woven midsole and a similarly busy upper. Its design is part Versace Chain Reaction, part YEEZY 451.

Other footwear worn on the runway included a number of bulky athletic shoes, as well as hiking and retro basketball-inspired options. Check them all out in the galleries below.

As Li-Ning outlines in the captions of both Instagram posts, it aims to “explore our place within today’s fast-paced world as walkers, wanderers, and explorers. This seems to suggest that the brand will place a heavier emphasis on functional and outdoors-inspired footwear for FW19.
