Illustrator Matthew Walsh re-imagines nine of his favorite Nike sneakers, adding iconic comic book hero colorways to each of the silhouettes.

Let’s be real, Spider-Man would look even more amazing swooping around New York City in some Air Max, and the auto-lacing Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 would match perfectly with Tony Stark’s armored exoskeleton. Walsh imagines these dream sneaker collaborations, and more, in the gallery above.

Walsh started as a self-taught illustrator, later taking design courses in college. “Sneakers are expensive and when you’re a kid, it’s easier to get a pen than Air Max 1s. I got into sneakers quite early too though,” he tells Highsnobiety. But if he could pick one of these fictional, comic book-inspired sneakers to actually bring to life? “The Iron Man HyperAdapt would be sweet,” he notes.
